iPad 3: Everything We Think We Know (Updated)

It's that magical time of year again, when everyone expects a new iPad to be right around the corner. Which in turn means an amassment of iPad 3 rumors clogging up our lives. Here's a quick guide to making sense of them.Take all of these with the usual large piles of salt grains. Oh, and remember: The iPad may only be two years old, but it's already such an institution that any radical shifts in design or philosophy are almost definitely out of the question (sorry, 7-inch believers). But that doesn't mean we don't expect see some significant changes both inside and out.

Maruti Suzuki to indigenously develop a Global Car by 2017

Maruti Suzuki concept
MSIL is one of the biggest contributors to Suzuki’s global story. The company is working towards developing strong in house R&D capabilities to be able to develop new platforms and models from the grounds up all by itself. The company’s extensive R&D center is getting ready in Rohtak which will arm it with the capability to develop new models not just Indian, but for the international market as well. The company plans to roll out a global car by the year 2017 for the European and Japanese market.
“Our ultimate aim is to develop a car for the global market. With our new R&D centre at Rohtak getting ready, we will start working on a global car. It is difficult to share any specific time, but we are keeping a target of 2017.”said IV Rao in an interaction with PTI. The company will develop the car with inputs and support from the parent Suzuki Motor Corp. While MSIL’s engineers have worked on the development of models like the Ritz and Swift in the past, creating a car from the scratch would be a new experience and exercise for the company’s R&D team.
The new R&D facility in Rohtak will be the result of an investment of more than r 1500crore. It will be Suzuki Motor Corporation’s only such facility outside Japan, and will help MSIL develop great capabilities to create new models, or alter existing models.
Apart from the global car, the interaction also threw some light on the new 800cc car which we told you about a few days back. The company is working on a new 800cc car which will be sold alongside the Alto. Expected to be priced below the Alto, the new car will strengthen the company’s presence in the biggest segment of the Indian car market.
Talking about the car, Mr Rao said: “It is a totally new model, but will be developed on an existing platform.”

Rumour: Nokia May Announce N8's Successor At MWC

It's the season of rumours, and we've got a juicy one. If BGR.com is to be believed, the Finns are set to launch the N8's successor, the Nokia 803. This does make sense, considering Nokia hasn't released a proper camera phone since 2010.

Mobile Tower Radiations Are Safe: Sibal

Mobile Tower Radiations Are Safe: Sibal
Union Communications and IT minister, Kapil Sibal has said that cellphone tower emission levels are safe for human beings. To support his statement, Sibal added that the government had set up an inter-ministerial committee, which found that the amount of radiation coming from towers is just 1% of the prescribed limit.

Additionally, later this year the prescribed mobile phone SAR (Specific Absorption Rate) safety level will be reduced from 2 to 1.6. While this might bring some respite to cellphone addicts, many still consider mobile phones as a health hazard. What's more concerning is that WHO (World Health Organisation) has categorised mobile phones in group 2B. In simple words, it means that cellphones may cause cancer!

To sum it up, it's still unclear whether cellphones and their network towers are completely safe. However, even if it proves to be harmful in the least, would you stop using it?

That of course buys you a pass onto Verizon's LTE network, along with a 4-inch qHD display, a dual-core 1.2GHz processor, a 8-megapixel camera (paired with a lower-res front-facing cam), 16GB of storage and Android 2.3.5 for an OS. We'll have a full review of the phone shortly, but in the meantime you can check out our hands-on with the device from last month.

Samsung's NP700 gaming laptop goes up for pre-order with Ivy Bridge pride

Jonesing for some more of Samsung's 17-inchers? Jones no more, because the Korean manufacturer has just put its NP700G7C gaming laptop up for pre-order. Packing 16GB of memory, this new Series 7 lappy made a brief appearance on Best Buy's website last month, but was quickly pulled. This time, though, it looks like it's for real, with Samsung touting its new "Gaming PC" on its very own website, alongside a $1,700 price tag. For that money, you'll get a 17.3-inch display with 1920 x 1080 resolution and, most compelling, a taste of Ivy Bridge, courtesy of the laptop's third-generation Intel Core i7-3610QM quad-core processor, which clocks in at 2.3GHz. It's available now, at the source link below.

Eurocom Panther 4.0 is the mirror universe's version of an Ultrabook

Eurocom, like its chassis-brethren Maingear and Clevo, just lives to jam over-sized Sandy Bridge E hardware into mumpsy laptops. Find yourself in front of the Panther 4.0 and you'll be staring into a 17.3-inch 1920 x 1080 display (you can choose between matte, glossy and 3D) as you work or game away on a choice of GeForce GTX 580M, Quadro 5010M or Radeon HD 6990M graphics kit. There's space for four terabytes of SATA 3.0 storage and 32GB of RAM. It's weighing in at 12.1lbs, so a quick warning to anyone whose muscles have atrophied with excessive Ultrabook usage: it's wise to do some reps down at the gym. When it arrives in March, it'll cost you $2649 for the base model -- from there, you can upgrade as far as your wallet / procurement budget will allow.

Apple sues Motorola over Qualcomm license, makes us dream of a world without lawyers

There are literally no words (at least no family-friendly ones) to describe the insanity that is the ongoing legal war between practically every player in the mobile scene. You can't lay the blame entirely at Cupertino's stoop either -- Motorola, HTC and Samsung all deserve plenty of our ire as well. The tablet and smartphone industry appears to be trying to sue itself out of existence, and Apple's filing today against Motorola Mobility in the US District Court of Southern California is just latest in a long line of legal ploys likely to inspire you to slam your head against a wall. The purveyors of all things "i" has accused Moto of breaching a licensing contract with Qualcomm when Moto hit Apple with four patent claims in Germany. That license covers wireless technology Qualcomm uses in its MDM6610 chip, and also purportedly covers Qualcomm's customers who purchase and use said chips. Naturally, that bit of silicon is a component in the iPhone 4S, so Apple argues that it's safe under the terms of the contract. Furthermore, Cupertino claims Motorola is barred from suing under the doctrine of exhaustion -- which is a legal defense that once a patented item is sold (i.e. when Moto licensed its technology to Qualcomm), the patentee's control over that item is exhausted and it can't sue anyone else for infringement. So, this new suit filed in San Diego seeks to prevent Motorola from enforcing its claims in Deutschland. It also aims to keep Motorola from suing Apple for its use of Qualcomm components incorporating licensed Moto technology anywhere else. Confused? We won't lie, we are a little bit too, but all is revealed in the complaint found at the source link below.

AT&T doubling its upgrade fee to $36 on February 12th (update: confirmed)

What do you do after reporting "blow-out" earnings and instituting larger, pricier, data plans? If you're AT&T, why not go for the jugular by doubling upgrade fees? Per the above leaked memo, that's exactly what Ma Bell plans to do come February 12th, upping the existing $18 fee to a new high of $36. That might sound familiar, as it's much in the same vein as cross-town rival Sprint, who went through the same kerfuffle back in September. We've pinged AT&T about the price hike and will update when we hear back.

Review: HTC ChaCha
Source- Techtree
Pros:Great Facebook integration; Thoughtful UI; Physical QWERTY keypad; Sturdy build.
Cons:Disappointing camera; Lacklustre video player; No equaliser; Many apps are incompatible.
HTC ChaCha
MRP: Rs 16,000
Street Price: Rs 14,800 (Saholic.com; Flipkart.com); Rs 15,500 (Letsbuy.com)

Androids are hot, and so is Facebook. Combine them both and you get a recipe for success in the mobile world. ChaCha has these ingredients, plus HTC's expertise in UI customisation. This sounds good enough to lure buyers. However, how well this "Facebook phone" performs in other departments remains to be seen.

Although many companies have entered the tablet market, none has yet managed to replicate the success of the iPads and GALAXY Tabs. Perceiving a glut in the high-end segment, some manufacturers have decided to try their luck with affordable tablets. Although most of these entry-level products compromise heavily on features, Spice's offering looks promising due to its capacitive touchscreen and phone capabilities.

Cons:Dated design; No DivX \ XviD support; Lacks AMOLED screen.

Street Price (As on 6-Feb-2012): Rs 17,200 (Saholic.com); Rs 18,000 (Infibeam.com; Letsbuy.com)

The Xperia neo V is not your usual successor - it's actually a downgrade from the original neo. Sounds weird, but the neo V sports a 5 MP camera, as opposed to its predecessor's 8 MP snapper. However, the manufacturer has tried to compensate for this with a price cut. Let's find out whether this is a worthy option in the mid-range category.

Atlantis Lost Again From Google Earth

Atlantis Lost Again From Google Earth
Source- Techtree
When a grid-like pattern first appeared on Google Ocean in 2009, believers were quick to hail this as the lost city of Atlantis. A strange grid-like undersea structure was seen on the cartographic application, off the coast of West Africa, about 600 miles west of the Canary Islands. Incidentally, this is close to the supposed location, at which the fabled island had originally sunk. Google had denied it back then, stating that the lines represented sonar data collected from boats.

Aakash Tablets "Literally Free" For University Students

Aakash Tablets 'Literally Free' For University Students
Source- Techtree
As students continue to wait to get their hands on the low cost Aakash tablet, the government has plans to make the device free for colleges and universities throughout India. However, HRD Minister for Science and Technology, Kapil Sibal clarified that the tablet which is priced at Rs 1,500 for students will receive a government subsidy of Rs 750, while the balance will have to be forked out by educational institutions; which would make the tablet "literally free" for   the student community. The tablet will be priced at cost Rs 2,500 for others, as specified before.

Reports suggest that the government of Andhra Pradesh has sent a proposal to purchase 10,000 tablets for the state universities, engineering, and polytechnic colleges. Similarly, the Mumbai University has also received requests for about 25,000 tablets from 90 colleges and other departments, under a scheme put forth by the HRD ministry for universities in the country.

This news should bring about some respite to the student community as the future of tablet has been under the cloud for a while now. After reports of the device being shelved and several performance issues, let us just hope the project sees the light of the day soon.

Images of HTC's upcoming device, called the Ville, have surfaced on the internet. Although the snaps aren't very clear, the yet-to-be-announced phone seems to run the latest Android 4.0 with the Sense 4.0 UI on top of it.

According to the source, the handset is powered by a 1.5 GHz CPU and has 1 GB of RAM. It sports a 4.3" AMOLED screen and an 8 MP camera. The phone is only 8.9 mm thick, which is unusual since most HTC devices are chubby. The sound is taken care of by Beats Audio integration, as seen in the Sensation XE.

Rumour: Samsung May Launch GALAXY SIII On 22nd March

Rumour: Samsung May Launch GALAXY SIII On 22nd March
Samsung will not unveil the GALAXY SIII at the Mobile World Congress (MWC). Apparently, the Korean giant wants to keep the GALAXY SII's successor under wraps for an exclusive event after MWC. A new report indicates that this might happen on 22nd March in Europe.

Contrary to its regular practice of holding big, exclusive mobile product announcements in New York City, this time around, the company has issued invites for an event in France. It is very likely that this is going to be a GALAXY SIII event, as Samsung is not known to have any other big product in the pipeline. Running Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich), this Super AMOLED HD phone, powered by a quad-core processor, comes with a 12 MP camera and improved battery life.

Iran Could Ban Samsung Products

Samsung is feeling the heat over an Israeli commercial, which features a GALAXY Tab 750 involved in the destruction of Iran's nuclear facility. The ad shows four characters from the popular Israeli TV series, Asfur. Disguised as women, the quartet bumps into an undercover Mossad agent, and accidently blows up Iran's nuclear facility. Needless to say, neither Ali Khamenei nor Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was amused.

Reportedly, Iranian officials are finding the commercial insulting as it portrays Israel capable of easily destroying such an important target in Iran. What's more, the ad has been surfaced within a month of the alleged assassination of the Iranian scientist by Mossad agents in Tehran.

Chrome Beta for Android hands-on (video)

Chrome beta for android

So, Google is finally making the move we've been expecting for some time now and bringing Chrome to Android. Now, you'll need a device running Ice Cream Sandwich to get the new mobile browser up and running but, thankfully, we happened to have a Galaxy Nexus on hand. As you might expect, mobile Chrome (much like its desktop sibling) is fast -- a little buggy perhaps, but fast. It isn't, however, the fastest browser for the platform. Chrome Beta holds its own, but the standard Android browser, the stable version of Firefox and Dolphin HD all edged it out in SunSpider. Numbers don't tell the whole story though, so head on past the break for more.

Yahoo's management overhaul continues: Chairman and three board members step down

Yahoo's Chairman and three other board members step down
Source- Engadgets
Out with the old, in with the new, eh? Yahoo certainly subscribes to that philosophy, as it's already shuffled out Jerry Yang in favor of Scott Thompson as its CEO, and now the company will be adding four fresh faces to it's board. Among those departing Yahoo is Roy Bostock -- which ends his four year reign as Chairman of the board -- who is perhaps most well-known for having a hand in turning down Microsoft's money in 2008. With this most recent shuffling at the top, Yahoo's down to just seven board members, but the search is on to find replacements for the departed directors. Who will be the lucky chosen ones? No one can say for sure, but given Yahoo's declining status, whoever joins up will have their work cut out to get the company back on top.

Olympus OM-D E-M5 Micro Four Thirds camera preview (video)

Source- Engadgets
Olympus has embraced the camera designs of yesteryear for several generations, from its first Micro Four Thirds models to last year's E-P3. But now the Japanese camera maker is stepping up its retro game, announcing a brand new line of Micro Four Thirds cams. Meet the OM-D. A dramatic departure from the more modern-looking PEN cameras, this new line of mirrorless models, specifically the E-M5, in many ways duplicates the design elements of the 1970s-era OM System. The first consumer camera in that SLR lineup, the OM-10, served as clear inspiration for the slightly boxy, black or silver and black magnesium alloy digital model we have today. We were able to spend some time with the Olympus E-M5 before tonight's announcement, and were very impressed with what we saw. Jump past the break for our impressions and an Olympus-guided video walkthrough, and thumb through the gallery below for a detailed look at the company's answer to the Fujifilm X-Pro1.

Olympus unveils SZ-31MR camera: 16 megapixels, 24x optical zoom
Source- Engagets
Japanese camera manufacturer Olympus has just introduced the successor to its SZ-30MR compact shooter. The new snapper not only sees a minimal increment on its stage name, SZ-31MR, but it also keeps the same 16-megapixel backlit sensor as its predecessor, as well as an identical 24x (25-600mm) optical zoom. Though, the newcomer does get a fresh image processor, making the jump from a TruePic III to a TruePic V, thus bringing along better low-light performance, scene enhancements and keeping high-quality shots while using the zoom feature. Amongst other traits, the device is packing a 3-inch (920,000-dot) LCD, 6400 ISO and 1080p video capture at 30fps. Olympus is also implementing a new technology dubbed iHS (Intelligent, High-Sensitivity and High-Speed), which the company claims will produce sharper and more vivid images. All this can be yours for a mere $399 this April when it's released, but if you want to know more before parting with that cash, check the pic gallery below and the PR after the break.

Ashok Leyland Jan Bus - The hi-tech, low cost approach

Low floor buses invariably meant integral construction and a rear engine not to mention a big cost outlay. Not any longer if one has to go by Ashok Leyland's novel approach with its Jan bus

The Jan Bus is a clever reading of rules and regulations and trying to deliver a simple yet modern package, which is technologically right up there yet is pretty cost effective

Source- Zigwheels
There is something about the 'can do' spirit which has been imbibed by many of our Indian OEMs as they grapple with the onerous task of delivering worthwhile solutions to mobility while forsaking outright tech for smart thought. Much that very essence pervades the very concept of the Jan Bus (Jan as in janata, public) that has surprisingly come from the uber staid and not to mention, ultra conservative Ashok Leyland.

Top 10 Most Expensive Cars In The World till date

What is the most expensive car in the world? The 1931 Bugatti Royale Kellner Coupe was sold for $8,700,000 in 1987. However, that car and many alike will not be included in this list because it is not available on the market today. It is hard to imagine someone would actually spend 8 million dollars on a car instead of using it for something more productive. However, if you had the money and opportunity, you would probably spend a small fraction of it on a collection of supercars for your private garage.
Here are the 10 most expensive production cars on the market; we will not include concept cars.
World's Most Expensive Cars:

1. Bugatti Veyron Super Sports $2,400,000. This is by far the most expensive street legal car available on the market today (the base Veyron costs $1,700,000). It is the fastest accelerating car reaching 0-60 in 2.5 seconds. It is also the fastest street legal car when tested again on July 10, 2010 with the 2010 Super Sport Version reaching a top speed of 267 mph. When competing against the Bugatti Veyron, you better be prepared!

2. Pagani Zonda Clinque Roadster $1,850,000. One of the most exotic cars out there is one of the most expensive. It can go from 0-60 in 3.4 seconds with a top speed of 217 mph.
We have a tie for 3rd place:

3. Lamborghini Reventon $1,600,000. The most powerful and the most expensive Lamborghini ever built is the third on the list. It takes 3.3 seconds to reach 60 mph and it has a top speed of 211 mph. Its rarity (limited to 20) and slick design are the reasons why it is so expensive and costly to own.

3. Koenigsegg Agera R $1,600,000. The Agera R can burn 0-60 in 2.8 seconds, reaching a maximum speed of 260 mph. It has the parts to reach 270 mph, but the supercar is electronically capped at 235 mph. With the completion of certain paperwork, the company will unlock the speed limit for one occasion.

4. McLaren F1 $970,000. In 1994, the McLaren F1 was the fastest and most expensive car. Even though it was built 15 years ago, it has an unbelievable  top speed of 240 mph and reaching 60 mph in 3.2 seconds. Even today, the McLaren F1 is still top on the list and outperforms many other supercars.

7. SSC Ultimate Aero $654,400. Don't let the price tag fool you, the 7th most expensive car is actually the 3rd fastest street legal car in the world with a top speed of 257 mph+ and reaching 0-60 in 2.7 seconds. This baby cost less than half as much as the Bugatti Veyron, yet has enough power to compete against the most expensive car. It is estimated that only 25 of this exact model will ever be produced.

8. Ascari A10 $650,000. This badboy can reach a tested top speed of 215 mph, zooming 0-60 in 2.8 seconds. The British car company plans to assemple 50 of these supercars in their factory in Banbury, England.

9. Saleen S7 Twin Turbo $555,000. The first true American production certified supercar, this cowboy is also rank 4th for the fastest car in the world. It has a top speed of 248 mph+ and it can reach 0-60 in 3.2 seconds. If you are a true American patriot, you can be proud to show off this car.

Currently, it is the 5th fastest car in the world with a top speed of 245 mph+, the car manufacture Koenigsegg has just released the Koenigsegg Agera R to compete against the Bugatti Veyron. The company is a tough contender and will continue to try and produce the fastest car in the world. Good luck with that!

Top 10 Fastest Cars In The World till date

While most of us can only dream of owning the fastest car in the world, some will do whatever it takes to possess the most powerful speed. So, how fast are the fastest cars in the world?
Here are the 10 fastest cars available on the market (production models, as opposed to concept cars) measured by tested top speed (theoretical speeds do not count).

World's Fastest Cars:

1. Bugatti Veyron Super Sport: 267 mph, 0-60 in 2.4 secs. Aluminum, Narrow Angle 8 Liter W16 Engine with 1200 hp, base price is $2,400,000. Although the Bugatti Veyron lost the title to SSC Ultimate Aero on March 2007, Bugatti challenge the record in Germany on July 10, 2010 with the new 2010 Super Sport Version and the Veyron once again claims the title of the fastest car in the world at 267 mph. The original Bugatti Veyron has a top speed of 253 mph, priced at $1,700,000 and equipped with 1001 hp.

#2 is a tie!
2. Hennessey Venom GT: 260 mph, 0-60 in 2.5 seconds, has a 6.2-liter LS9 Turbocharged V8 Twin Turbo V8 Engine producing 1200 hp, has a price tag of $950,000. The Venom GT has yet to be tested and proven, but could possibly hit a top speed of 275 mph. This might just be the Veyron Super Sport's closest competitor!

2. Koenigsegg Agera R: 260 mph, 0-60 in 2.9 secs. 5.0-liter V8 Engine with twin turbo’s, housing 1099 hp. Base price is $1,600,000. If you're into snow sports, the Agera R can be fitted with a Ski Box as well as winter tires, not that I would take one on a ski trip or anything like that. While the Agera R has a massive theoretical top speed, the current tested top speed is 260 mph. Expect this snow car to be the Bugatti's arch enemy for the next 5 years.

3. SSC Ultimate Aero: 257 mph, 0-60 in 2.7 secs. Twin-Turbo V8 Engine with 1183 hp, base price is $654,400. Tested in March 2007 by Guinness World Records, The SSC Ultimate Aero was the fastest car in the world from March 2007 to July 2010. On March 2011, the Koenigsegg Agera R also surpassed it, forcing this American made car to the #3 spot. Shelby SuperCars will continue their quest to reclaim the fastest car title, and their new SSC Tuatura might do the job (we'll just have to wait).

8. Noble M600: 223 mph, 0-60 in 3.7 secs. Twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 Engine with 650 hp. Base price is $330,000. The Noble M600 also happens to be a very cool car. Its inconspicuous design sports a slender and contoured body which does not scream out for attention at every second of the day.
We have a tie for 9th and 10th places:

9. Lamborghini Aventador: 217 mph, 0-60 in 2.9 secs. V12 Engine with 700 hp, base price is $379,700. According to Lamborghini, Aventador is the name of a Bull that entered into battle at the Saragossa Arena on October 1993. This is the fastest bull in the world!
